Dr Howard W Ponish D.C. walked into my studio about 4 years ago as a client and became a fan of Freestyle Therapeutics: Mat Based Therapy shortly after (like... 60 minutes later).
As a Doctor of Chiropractic for more than 50 years and having a foundation of a couple tours of Vietnam his reputation preceded him. Before starting his personal practice he worked with the burn unit in Guam and treated the upper echelon of military minds during the high stress times of the era.
I was excited to show him my work and pick his brain for feedback with a modality under construction and evolving to what we are working today. After each session Howard and I would chatter on about possibilities for treatment and the spectrum of work with the tools the mat offered the practitioner.
I showed him the traction methods and distraction cadences for larger joint spaces. He offered feedback and coached for improvements with decades of experience with thousands of bodies adjusted in his carrier. He was instrumental in the Do No Harm mantra of Freestyle Therapeutics and the quest for functional therapy while preserving a practitioners body and mind for more.
He still maintains his Doctoral Credentials and sharp mind to unravel the human puzzle with me. When he isn't in the studio, he can be found on the family ranch cutting up mesquite trees and generally messing up all the good work I offer his human suit.
He also participates in fishing tournaments on the weekends, enjoys an occasional glass of whiskey, and can't pass up my local honey caramel.
His lovely wife Lorrane is the kindest woman I know. She makes the best cookies and leads a bible study at the local Catholic church. Together they have raised two children and have two grandchildren.
